My oh my...never in my 21yrs of life did it cross my mind that i would be blogging about a man who committed a crime and 30yrs later is being charged for unlawful sexual contact. This is another issue that supports the reputation of Hollywood and how Hollywood works in its own dimension. As John Tantillo, a psychologist and president of a Manhattan-based marketing company said, "Hollywood is not middle America, there is a way of life that is very unique to that industry." How is the judicial court even allow to press charges against someone who has attained citizenship from a different country. I look at this issue as not just an old crime that is a closed book but it raises many questions about our justice system. The Los Angeles district attorney's office has considered Polanski a fugitive since 1978, when he fled the country after pleading guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl the year before. Keep in mind that this is a public figure and being that he pleaded guilty, this extradiction process should have be done then. Why 30 years later? Many have argue whether this was rape or not, but why is the arguement still up to questioned when he has already pleaded guilty. I think a good fact to keep in mind is that the victim Samantha Gailey has asked authorities to drop the case and leave him alone.

Not only am i seeing justice issues with this crime but i criticized the media always for doing this. Media always gives extra exposure to stories that are not worth it. In a way i feel the media is making the situation worse for Polansky. I may be biased on my arguement, being a Polansky fan myself, but it is true, he is now portayed as a pedafile and all of the art he has created is being under looked. For many who did not know who Polansky was before, the news has hit every medium and reached so many different audiences that he is now known to this people as this horrible sex offender Hollywood director, and not for his work.

Polansky has many Hollywood supporters, those include whom i consider a genius, Woody Allen; but then yet i question... Woody Allen's personal life is not one to commend. Still, it does not take away from their work and from the fact that many people can not seperate a public figure's work from their personal life. The media has made it that what sells is the tragedy and the horrible habits of this public figures, and therefore they enhance every aspect to a higher level. On the other hand, we have our justice systems; who understands United States Judicial Court, that is one question to remain unanswered, however, my input towards it is that is full of crap! Rules are broken, exceptions are made and wrong people are prosecuted. I am sure that there are many other international issues for our Secretary of State Ms. Clinton, to take care of and not waste her time with France's appealed to release Polansky from Swiss authorities; Polansky should have never been arrested in the first place. Hey! U.S. Judicial Court, Media and world citizens (mostly americans) stop sponsoring this barbarous behavior and concentrate on issues that matter, such as supporting the Queen of Jordan in her chase for destroying nuclear weapons. Oh wait a minute, now you know what i am talking about because Obama is now in on it and speaks about it at the General Assembly but guess what? The Queen of Jordan has been after this issue way long before Obama decides to speak of it.

  1. Interesting point here. I think one could also argue that the reason that he was never brought to justice in the first place was because he IS a celebrity. Does being a genius give you special rights? in the media? in the courtroom? Here is a counter, feminist perspective:
